Meet the Skout: Juliet Haley

Meet the Skout: Juliet

Why was PR your chosen career?

Originally, I entered PR to help a friend in a mutually beneficial way – I was a fresh graduate seeking direction and she was overworked and looking for an apprentice. I fell in love with the creative problem solving and the variety involved in this line of work. No one client is the same so every day is an opportunity to learn something new.

If you hadn’t chosen a career in PR what would you be doing?

I would definitely be doing something creative. I spend a lot of my spare time drawing, painting, printing, writing and generally making a huge mess!

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

If you’re looking for something you think you’ve lost “check the ass first.” Likelihood is it’s in your back pocket or underneath something you’re sitting on. This advice has changed lives.

If you won the lottery, how would you spend it?

Poorly, I imagine.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?

I have been very lucky so far and would claim to have enjoyed all of my jobs to date. As long as you are surrounded by good people anything can be enjoyable.

If you were an animal what would you be and why?

I would love to live life as a Honey Badger. They are sassy, fearless creatures with a Machiavellian spirit that I have struggled to embrace as a human.

If you could, would you live forever and why/why not?

Isn’t part of the excitement of life in its uncertainty? All good thing must come to an end and there really are only so many films on Netflix….

Who are your top three dream dinner party guests?

Arundhati Roy, GZA from the Wu-Tang Clan and Bill Murray. I like to believe that they are already friends.

I recently attended a leadership training course where we were asked to define our leadership style and our core values. We were guided through this exercise during the course but it got me thinking about my core values – the things that, when challenged, can prompt a physical reaction and an emotional response. It didn’t take me long to work...
