Bella ‘Meet the Skout’

Why PR?

I studied English Language and Literature at the University of Leeds and knew I wanted to enter a career that gave me an opportunity to write creatively. PR felt like a natural option.

If you had not done PR, what else would you have done?

I would have followed a close partner to PR – the media. Combining my interests with my degree subject, I would have entered a career in journalism. I have always loved to read and collect iconic print magazines – spending my pocket money on Vogue was a monthly ritual, not to mention searching every news agents for special editions!

What’s the best piece of advice you have been given?

There is no such thing as luck – you create your own.

If you won the lottery, how would you spend it?

Of course, I have to begin by pledging to offer some money to family, friends and charities close to my heart. BUT THEN… I would buy a house that is a doer-upper, as I don’t believe my ‘dream’ home exists in the flesh quite yet – I have a very specific eye. Naturally, to help me along the way, I would employ an interior designer and assistant. I would spend most of my time shopping, doing yoga and PT sessions, and travelling the world. I do believe I would still have to have some job commitment still. I need a balance and I have such a drive for career success.

What’s the worst job you have ever had?

Honestly, waitressing. I lasted all of three months. I didn’t enjoy it, I couldn’t bear handling the food left on people’s plates or thrown on the floor (thank you toddlers), and you really were rushed off your feet. However, it has given me a great respect for people in hospitality and in customer service. Graham Norton said on Elizabeth Day’s How to Fail podcast that his failed attempt as a waiter gave him a similar respect not just to hospitality staff, but to all and that it should be compulsory for everyone to work in the industry at some point. I couldn’t agree more. Even if it is only three months…

If you were an animal, what would you be?

Everyone who knows me would probably say a giraffe. At 5’10”, I am fairly tall and always towered above everyone at school.

If you could, would you live forever?

Probably not, no amount of botox is saving me at 126.

Who are your top three dinner party guests?

Miriam Margolyes, Stephen Fry, and Graham Norton (we can discuss our failed waiting careers).
